Believe you can, and you're halfway there. - Theodore Roosevelt

Literally everyday I am in the studio I hear someone say something negative about themselves, or use the words "I can't". This isn't unique in just the studio, I am sure if you look around you see this negative self talk in your everyday life. You see something on social media and immediately think to yourself "I could never do that", "I can never be that disciplined"... the list goes on and on.

I was listening to a podcast that had Dr. Amen as a guest. Dr. Amen is the doctor I referred to in my last post that knows all about brain health. He actually had a genius idea. He says that everyone should name their brain. Give your brain a name and talk to it. My brains name is Sally (I know this sounds ridiculous but stick with me). Anytime I say anything negative to myself or find myself thinking I can't do something I can say "SHUT UP SALLY"! "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU SALLY"! There are many phrases that can be used and some that shouldn't be written here. It allows you to separate yourself with your negative talk to realize how silly you are being.

This about this the next time you are in the studio. Whether it's lifting heavier, getting up on the pull up bar, etc. What is stopping you? Is it your thoughts? Most likely it is.

So listen to the coach that is cheering you on and knows what you are capable of and ignore *insert your brains name here*
